Prof. Panos Macheras is Emeritus Professor of Pharmacy at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA), Greece, Head of the Pharma Informatics Unit at the Research Center ATHENA, and Adjunct Professor at the State University of New York (SUNY) Buffalo, USA. He holds a B.Pharm. and a Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Chemistry from NKUA, as well as a Ph.D. in Biopharmaceutics-Pharmacokinetics from King’s College, University of London. His research spans drug dissolution and release, gastrointestinal absorption, pharmacokinetics, fractal and fractional kinetics, nonlinear dynamics, and population pharmacokinetics. In 2019, he introduced the Finite Absorption Time (F.A.T.) concept, offering a reliable pathway to accelerate drug and generic drug development. He has published over 190 journal articles (>10,000 citations, h=46) and seven books. He is a recipient of the AAPS Dale E. Wurster Award (2014), the Pharmaceutical Sciences World Congress Research Achievement Award (2010), and is a Fellow of AIMBE (2007). He serves on the editorial boards of Pharmaceutical Research, the International Journal of Pharmaceutics, and the European Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences. His contributions have profoundly shaped the fields of biopharmaceutics and pharmacokinetics.
